Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite+ Card3.4/5$150NoneVisa$42

Our data has 35 cards. 2 list a 0% foreign transaction fee. They are ranked here by overall score, highest first — the same formula as How we rank, not a hand-typed travel ranking.

Net annual value is estimated rewards on the published spend profile minus the listed annual fee. It is not a trip-spend estimate.

What a 2.5% FX fee costs on trip spend

Foreign-currency spend2.5% FX fee0% FX fee
$1,000$1,000 × 2.5% = $1,000 × 0.025 = $25$0
$2,000$2,000 × 2.5% = $2,000 × 0.025 = $50$0
$4,000$4,000 × 2.5% = $4,000 × 0.025 = $100$0

27 of 29 cards that list an FX fee charge 2.5%. Scotiabank’s Gold Amex and Passport pages call 2.5% the typical issuer mark-up and say those two cards do not charge it — only the exchange rate applies.

The fee is a percentage of the Canadian-dollar amount after conversion. On $2,000 of foreign-currency spend: $2,000 × 2.5% = $2,000 × 0.025 = $50.

A 0% FX card still converts the currency. You avoid the issuer mark-up, not the exchange rate itself.

Cards whose FX fee is not listed are excluded

6 cards in our data do not list a foreign transaction fee (American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card, Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card, MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus Mastercard, MBNA Smart Cash World Mastercard, SimplyCash Card from American Express, and SimplyCash Preferred Card from American Express). We show those as “Not listed” on /data and drop the FX component from their score instead of assuming 2.5% or 0%. They are not in the 0% ranking above.

If an issuer page later lists 0%, we can add the card. Until then, missing is missing.
